Huhne bangs the drum for the Green

Green Deal to be “most ambitious energy plan ever put forward.”

“The Green Deal will be a revolution. The first scheme of its kind in the developed world. The most ambitious energy-saving plan ever put forward. A once-and-for-all refit that will make every home in Britain ready for a low-carbon future.”
Chris Huhne, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change
Chris Huhne, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, has spoken of the coalition government’s plans to overhaul the energy efficiency of homes and small businesses through the upcoming Green Deal at his Party’s conference.

Mr Huhne spoke of the government’s plans to be the greenest ever and focused on the need to improve insulation in homes and small businesses in order to reduce or heating costs and laid out plans for energy companies to foot the bill, recovering their outlay in energy savings as seen in the current CERT scheme.

As well as the Green Deal’s capacity to save consumers energy and money, Mr Huhne expects it to create green jobs as sustained growth is experienced under a “third industrial revolution” fuelled by the need to reduce carbon emissions and embrace green energy.

The Green Deal, which is to be launched by the Department of Energy and Climate Change before the end of 2010, will also include plans for a Green Investment Bank which will help fund the UK’s sustainable infrastructure.

There are already several renewable energy incentives available to both homeowners and commercial businesses, and with a promise of more to come from the Coalition under the Green Deal, there has never been a better time to invest in energy saving and renewable energy technology.
